4 Reasons to Move to a New City

While mindset plays a large role in our lives, we should also be taking physical steps to improving our wellbeing and enjoy ourselves. Moving to a new city can often seem daunting and scary at first, but it can be a wonderful opportunity to grow as a person.

You could use various different real estate websites or companies to scope out new areas and houses. Searches could be specific such as typing St Albert real estate or using broader terms such as the country name and seeing which city catches your eye. There is no doubt that moving can feel stressful but the benefits can massively outweigh the negatives. In this article, I will explain just some of the wonderful reasons to take the leap into moving somewhere completely new.

1. A fresh start

Moving to a new city can be a chance for a fresh start, a reset, a chance to wipe the slate clean and start again with your best foot forward. If you found that you had been living with a lot of bad habits, beliefs attached to the area or living situation, then moving to a new location can provide an opportunity to step away from old cycles that you were struggling to break. A new place gives you a fresh start to be the person you want to be, where you only bring the things you love with you. Sometimes we become stagnated in the same routines and places out of habit but not out of joy. Moving to a new city means you can now select somewhere that is not only perfect for commuting or working from home, having the space you desired but also a city and house that sparks joy in you.

2. Upgrade your lifestyle and your wellbeing

Following on from the last point, you could see moving to a new city as a being an upgrade in your lifestyle. While a bigger, more expensive and more luxurious house in a new amazing city is also seen as a step up, the upgrade does not have to be very expensive. You may be able to choose somewhere that improves your physical and mental wellbeing aka your optimal place to live. Whether you feel that's having more places to relax and drink a nice cup of tea, somewhere local to listen to live music, living close to nice hiking trails and gyms, being a walk away from the beach or simply having that serene view from the window above the kitchen skin. We all have different desires, so this upgrade would not be a case of one shoe fits all. However, moving to a new city may be the catalyst for you to focus on what you want in your life, what would make you feel a little bit happier and a little bit more joy everyday.

3. New friends and relationships

Moving can be a great way to meet new people. Many of us have found that as we get older, it becomes more difficult to make friends. Suddenly we miss the days of walking over to someone else in the playground and simply asking them to be our friend or bonding with the person sitting next to you in class. There’s nothing wrong with enjoying your current relationships and your relationship with yourself (importantly), but we can learn so much from meeting new people and connection is an important part of everyone’s lives. According to Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs explains that ‘love and belonging’ are the most important human needs after air, food and safety. A new city requires you to branch out and meet your nieghbours, get talking to those around you and be open to trying new things.

4. New experiences

The best way to see and feel differently is to immerse yourself in different experiences than you usually would. Moving somewhere new does just that. Whereas you may not have had many incentives to go out and explore, living somewhere new throws your temporarily out of your comfort zone (which is a good thing) to help you develop. This is an opportunity for growth, a chance to show yourself skills and adaptability that you may not even know you have. New experiences may look different for everyone. For those moving away from home or living with friends, the new experience may be learning to be alone and feeling safe in your own company. For others, a new culture can be the experience to broaden your understanding and perspective of the world. More job experiences may be available with the potential for growth in your field. The list of new things can be endless when you take the leap of faith into moving into a new city.
